Dry January: Biggest Benefits & Challenges
During the month of January, a few of our employees took part in Dry January, and wow was it a success!
We were supporting our members of staff along with our workers through the month with motivation, fun facts, and suggestions on how to accomplish Dry January!
We interviewed 2 members of staff from within our Group.
Catherine Donaldson from our sister brand Olano & Operations Manager at Stafforce Nikki Heath.
We wanted to know what they found the biggest benefits and challenges during the month and this is what they said…
Benefits
Nikki found she saved an awful lot of money at the weekends especially. Over the entire 31 days, she saved approximately £215 on alcohol and taxi fares, which she would’ve spent if she wasn’t doing Dry January. Nikki also felt that she slept better and due to no hangovers or heavy head’s in the morning, as good as new come the morning. Nikki found she saved a lot of money on taxi fare due to the fact if she wasn’t drinking she could drive to the destination and also be the designated driver for her friends. She found she didn’t wake up dehydrated or needing to disrupt her sleep by going to the toilet. Being able to drive, also meant she had more freedom for certain activities like a swim on a Sunday morning.
Catherine found her skin and energy levels were improved. Normally after a heavy weekend drinking, she would get bad breakouts and her energy levels were extremely low but, she was feeling a lot more awake on Mondays since taking up Dry January. Cath also found she saved a lot of money. Two for one cocktails sound cheap but, the reality is they were causing her to spend £50 and more on a night out.
Challenges
Nikki found one of the biggest challenges was the habit of having a cheeky drink on a Friday or Saturday night. Nikki was invited to Sunday lunch at her friends who were drinking wine and prosecco, which she found challenging as she felt she was missing out, however, I used a wine glass for my lime & soda which made her feel more included.
Catherine went to Leeds for one of her friend’s birthdays one weekend and she found it really difficult not to drink when everyone else around was drinking. She had a really long weekend where she didn’t really get any downtime so found she fancied a glass of wine. However, she couldn’t which was a little difficult when she was feeling stressed.
For anyone else who completed Dry January, a huge well done!
