Celebrating Two Decades!
Today, we’re thrilled to celebrate an incredible milestone with Alison Cook, a highly respected leader in the recruitment industry who is marking 20 remarkable years with Stafforce, Part of the Nicholas Associates Group of Companies. From starting her journey two decades ago to now playing a pivotal role in our success, Alison has witnessed and contributed to the fantastic success and transformation within Stafforce.
In this interview, we’ll explore the highlights of her career, her journey with Stafforce over the past 20 years, and her insights into what it takes to thrive in such a fast-paced industry. We’ll also look ahead to the future and hear their advice for aspiring professionals.
Looking back on your career with Stafforce, what has been your proudest achievement?
Watching the growth of individuals within my teams has been incredibly rewarding. Whether they are still part of my team today or have moved on to new opportunities, many have achieved amazing milestones. Knowing I played a part in their journey and contributed to their success makes me proud.
Your journey with Stafforce began 20 years ago. Can you tell us how your role evolved during this time?
Wow, how times have changed! I kicked off my Stafforce recruitment journey as Branch Manager in Hull back when fax machines were still a thing and job boards weren’t ruling the world. From there, I stepped up to Senior Business Manager, managing Hull operations and some fantastic local Managed Service Accounts. As the years rolled on (and thankfully, technology improved!), I took on the challenge of a second branch, overseeing Scunthorpe and Doncaster. Next, I moved into Head of Managed Services and eventually became Director for Managed Services and Stafforce North. Every step along the way has been a mix of learning, laughter, and occasionally asking myself how we ever coped without smartphones and online CV libraries!
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned here so far?
Keep going! Challenges will always arise—whether it’s credit crunches, recessions, epidemics, or changes in legislation. The key is perseverance and maintaining a positive attitude. Facing obstacles with determination and, ideally, a smile on your face can make all the difference!
What advice would you give to someone looking to work in the recruitment industry?
Be resilient, stay curious, and build strong relationships. Recruitment is fast-paced and ever-changing, so adaptability and a genuine passion for helping others succeed are key to thriving in this industry.
If you could describe your past 20 years in three words, what would they be?
Challenging, fun and rewarding, I wouldn’t change a thing (well, except maybe a pandemic!)…
What might your colleagues not know about you after all these years? Do you have any hidden talents or fun hobbies?
DIY… Tiling, flooring, patios, painting you name it, I’ll give it a go, I’ve even carpeted a bedroom! I do not like paying for things if I can do it myself; it is also the one thing I do that really helps me switch off from the day-to-day.
What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to someone starting at Stafforce today?
Be consistently persistent and persistently consistent – it pays off!
20 years down. What’s in store for the next 20?
Crikey!!! – more of the same (I secretly love it!)
As we celebrate Alison’s 20-year milestone, it’s clear her dedication, leadership, and passion have been instrumental towards the success of Stafforce. Her journey is a testament to the power of hard work, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence in the ever-evolving recruitment industry.
Congratulations, Alison.
