Mental Health First Aid

Each year approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health condition and at least 1 in 6 employees experience common mental health problems in the workplace. Research has shown that work is the biggest cause of stress which can stop people performing at their best.

This comprehensive two-day course covers a wide range of mental health conditions, enabling all participants to learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers.

We are also IOSH accredited and provide a Managing Safely course, Working Safely course, a Cargo Handling in Ports course, a Fire Safety/Manual Handling course, Fire Safety for Managers course, Fire Safety Awareness course and First Aid at Work course.

About Mental Health First Aid

The Mental Health First Aid course is suitable for people aged 16+ who need to learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers and identify who within their business may need help.

Mental Health First Aid learning outcomes cover:

Knowledge to recognise a wide range of mental health conditions and learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers.
Know how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help.
Recognising and managing stress and understand the impact of substance abuse.
Learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and understand how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

Assessment & Certification

The qualification has 12 assigned guided learning hours and 14 hours total qualification time.

Upon successful completion certification is valid for three years.

Under the current guidelines it is ‘strongly recommended’ that first aid trained staff attend an annual refresher course, before completing full re-qualification training at the three-year point.
