Why Stafforce’s Ports Training is Uniquely Trusted by Leading Companies
Ports are dynamic and complex environments where safety and efficiency are paramount. At Stafforce, we understand the importance of specialised training in ensuring that port operations run smoothly. Our tailored ports training programs are designed not only to meet industry standards but also to exceed them, making us a trusted partner for many leading companies. This article explores the unique aspects of our training programs and highlights why major companies place their trust in Stafforce.
Unique Non-Plant Roles Training at Ports
Ports require a range of specialised roles beyond the operation of heavy machinery. Stafforce has developed comprehensive training programs for several critical non-plant roles that are essential to port operations:
Hold-Working: Our training ensures that staff can safely discharge and load various cargoes in the hold of ships, a task that requires precision and an acute awareness of safety protocols.
- Quay-Working: Stafforce provides thorough training for working on the quayside, focusing on the safe landing and lifting of cargo.
- Chocking/Skidding: Trainees learn to work with forklifts in both indoor and outdoor settings, placing cradles, wooden chocks, or timber bearers to safely stack various cargo.
- Checking: This training ensures that cargo is accurately checked, and the correct sizes and grades are marked, minimising errors and ensuring smooth operations.
- Laydown: Stafforce training in laydown management involves planning and overseeing the safe stowage and handling of cargo, with a strong emphasis on communication and issue resolution.
- Bespoke Training and Support: At our Peel Ports Group Liverpool site, we have a dedicated team of Training Within Industry (TWI) Instructors. These are experienced port workers, each with over three years of hands-on experience, who bring their practical knowledge to the training process. Our TWI instructors are further trained by RTITB-certified instructors, ensuring the highest standards in training delivery.
Our approach is unique in that we offer ongoing support even after the completion of the training courses. Trainees are not just signed off after passing tests; they continue to receive guidance and mentorship to ensure they are fully confident and competent in their roles.
Visible Safety and Progressive Training
Our new workers at the Liverpool Port are easily identified by their red hard hats, signalling to other workers that they are still gaining experience. This visual cue promotes a culture of safety and awareness across the port. Upon successful completion of the training and when both Stafforce and client supervisors are satisfied with their performance, trainees are issued a yellow hard hat, signifying their readiness for more complex tasks.
Stafforce also provides additional non-plant training, including working at height, slinger signaller, manual handling, and vehicle banksman. These courses are delivered by RTITB-certified instructors and culminate in official certification, further enhancing the safety and competence of our trainees.
Trusted by Leading Companies
The confidence that leading companies place in Stafforce Ports’ training is reflected in our rigorous programs and our commitment to excellence. We offer the IOSH Working Safely in Ports certification, a requirement for anyone working on Associated British Ports (ABP). This certification is a testament to the thoroughness and quality of our training, ensuring that our trainees meet the high standards expected by top industry players.
Stafforce’s port training programs are not only comprehensive but also uniquely tailored to the specific needs of the industry. From our specialised non-plant roles training to our visible safety measures and industry-recognised certifications, we ensure that our trainees are well-prepared to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of ports. It’s no wonder that leading companies trust us to train their workforce, knowing that we deliver both the skills and the safety that the modern port environment demands.
