CV Writing Tips

The fact is that no matter what you want to do or what you’ve trained as or even how good you are – your CV will be, without doubt, the single most important part of getting a job. It is imperative you and your CV stand out in the crowd. Our CV writing tips can help.

Where to start? Here are some simple rules.

Write it yourself.

  • Remember your CV represents you and the language you typically use.
  • Add your name and contact details at the top so easy to find.
  • List your key achievements next and back these up with compelling facts.
  • Include job title and dates in your employment history and add the most recent ones first with a clear description of your duties.
  • Add on education and qualifications – top tip – mention the most relevant ones to the job you are applying for first.
  • Don’t forget to highlight relevant training courses you have led and or attended.
  • Hobbies are a useful indicator of your personality and can offer real insight in to your range of skills.
  • Reference details at the bottom of your CV.

Keep it brief.

  • Make sure your CV is no longer than 2/3 pages.
  • Sentences are uncomplicated.
  • Highlight relevant skills and tailor your CV to each job role you apply for.

Be truthful and accurate
Don’t forget to declare any breaks in service. Keep it real!

Get the language right.

  • Write your CV in third person.
  • Use positive language.
  • Check for spelling and grammatical errors- better still get another person to check it over for you.

Add the finishing touches.

  • Ensure your CV is easy to read.
  • The font size is uniform.
  • Any indents are consistent throughout.
  • Don’t mix up your bullet points.

Using our CV writing tips can help you create a CV with impact. Plus our specialist consultants are at hand to help you put your best self forward.
