Some hints and tips!

If the interview is going well or you have been asked back for a second time, the conversation will turn to your salary (hopefully!). Here are a few hints on how to handle yourself in this situation:

• Maintain eye contact with the interviewer
• Know the market rate for your role; salary surveys are widely available on the Internet, or ask around. Are your expectations realistic?
• Stand your ground to get the salary you want. Summarise again why you are worth the salary you are asking for and the skills and experience you can bring to the role.
• Keep your manner upbeat and positive, and base your case on facts. If the company really can't meet your salary now, what can they offer instead?
• How regularly will your salary be reviewed? Perhaps you can accept a slightly lower offer with a salary review in three months?
